Chance to visit rarely-opened Napoleonic fortress

Visitors to the Western Heights open weekend will get the chance to visit a magnificent piece of military architecture. The Drop Redoubt and Grand Shaft at the Western Heights in Dover, Kent will be open during the weekend of 30th/31st May 2009. The weekend will be packed with events and activities for all the family. The Drop Redoubt, a gun platform built to combat the threat of invasion in the 19th century, will be open with a small entrance fee; the rest of the site is free to enter. The event is organised by the Western Heights Preservation Society.
